Khuntai Restaurant @ PJ

PJ is an established city in Klang Valley. As such, the shops and restaurants there stood the test of time. You don't easily get disappointed going to makan in PJ.

There are many Thai restaurant in Malaysia. Malaysians of all races love Thai food. Most of the Thai restaurants are run by Malaysians. It is not easy to find one run by Thais. Khuntai restaurant is one exception. The owner definitely has some Thai background and most of the staff are Thai.

The restaurant is located in the residential area of PJ and looks like your neighbourhood restaurant where you and your family go there for one single purpose, i.e. MAKAN.

The decoration is simple. There are photo of Yang di Petuan Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong of Malaysia on the wall. There are also photo of the incumbent Thai King, King Bhumibol Adulyadej. For your information, if a Thai word ends with l, the l will become ng phonetically. Bhumibol is spelled using Thai spelling, it should really be pronounced as Bhumibong. Photo of 2 monarchies in the same premise, isn't this a case of divided loyalty?

The menu comes with many set menu. It was 930pm and we were not really that hungry.

I forgot the name of the dish and the name of the leaves. Essentially, you fold the leaf into an inverted cone, put a bit of peanuts, dried shrimps, garlic, ginger, onion, chillies, etc into the cone and pour some honey on top and put it into your mouth. It was refreshing.

Thai style tempura kangkong. Amazing, the batter was fried super crispy. I didn't know kangkong can be cooked this way.

Prawn in Thai green curry.

The Thai waitress was very friendly. She tooked our order, served the dishes and offered to take photo for us. She was also laughing and giggling all the time.

Steamed squid. It was really a mistake to keep it warm on fire. Steamed squid cannot be overcooked. We noticed the changes in the texture of the squid gradually. The flame was just too strong.

The food was great, except for the mistake of putting the steamed squid on fire. The total bill was RM60.

Leha Kelfood @ Setapak, KL

Leha Kelfood is a buffet style Malay cafeteria that serves Kelantanese food in Setapak. It is located in a row of shop next to the main road from Ulu Klang to Batu Caves. The cafeteria is opened daily for lunch and dinner till late evening. In the day time, people come here to eat. In the evening, people come here to hang out with friends and watch football.

It is a self service cafeteria. You will see a huge table with with trays of dishes and food the moment you enter the cafeteria. You get your rice (there is a variety of white rice, nasi dagang, nasi bryanni, etc), keropok and all the traditional Kelantanese dishes. When you sit down, someone will come to you and jot down what you have taken. You can then order your drink.

There is a rich variety of Malay kueh at the side of the restaurant.

One of the reason why I come to this restaurant is the dessert Pengat Durian that is served daily.

delicious, Jalan Ampang, KL

There are several branches of delicious in Kuala Lumpur. The largest branch is its branch along Jalan Ampang which is inconspicuously hidden in a apartment block next to Restaurant Bombay and Tabung Haji. This branch is huge with the ground floor selling ingredients of western cuisine and a spacious second floor that has live Jazz music in the evening. It is definitely a nice place to hang out for the yuppies in Kuala Lumpur.

The style of decoration is quite similar in all branches of delicious. The same oak colour furniture with lots of white bird cages hanging on white tree branches.

Try their lemon shaved ice. You will be surprised with the spices that has been added to the drink.

Caesar salad with smoked salmon. A healthy vegetable dish. Very nice!

Its Gado Gado is nice too. The peanut sauce is essentially sate sauce served using a banana flower petal.

Sauteed mushroom salad.

I forgot the name of this dish. But the duck liver in the centre was sinfully delicious.

Its cupcake is wonderful too. I have a banana cake topped with butterscotch and my friend ordered an apple cake with raspberry cream. Yummy!

Winter Warmers Coffee and Tea House @ The Curve

This is a coffee shop in The Curve that serves English tea and coffee.

The decoration is flowery English.

The English like to drink their tea and coffee mixed with all kinds of flower and fruits.

A lavendar cheese cake.

Chocolate mint coffee.

Rose coffee.
