A blog for me to write about what I put into my bottomless pit and what I do in my spare time.

Kafe Snacks Junction Road @ Johor Jaya
The bearing of the left wheel of my car was not working well and I could not get it repaired in time last Sunday. Unable to travel too far, I decided to stayed home and take a good rest. It was one of the weekend that I was not on the road..
Luckily, the car could till move. I drove to Johor Jaya for lunch and spotted a new restaurant with this interesting name Kafe Snacks Junction Road. It turned out to be a Taiwanese restaurant. I should have known that. What else can a Chinese restaurant with Japanese decoration be? Unlike the Koreans, Taiwanese are proud and thankful of Japanese colonization.
The decoration is in the style of the Taiwanese village town called Jiu Fen that suddenly became chic after the movie Melancholic City. The dishes on offer are scribbled on the wall like graffiti.
As a matter of fact, the cover of the menu is the picture of Jiu Fen.
The food on the menu are Chinese/Japanese fusion.
I ordered a Taiwanese bubble tea. It was okay but rather disappointed. The roasted wheat fragrance of Taiwanese bubble tea was missing.
The three cup chicken was nice though. The chicken was succulent and fresh. A lot of people think that Three Cup Chicken is a Taiwanese dish. It actually originates from Jiangxi(江西) province of China. To cook this dish, you need to add a cup of soy sauce, a cup of cooking oil and a cup of rice wine, hence the name Three Cup Chicken. Sweet Marjoram(九层塔,金不换)leaves are added to give it the fragrance.
Rice with lor bak as the Singaporean put it. In Taiwan, there are (火空)肉饭,魯肉飯,滷肉飯,etc, I could not differentiate which is which. It is lor bak in the style of Hokien and Teochew definitely.
This dish is known as Hiyayakko (冷奴) in Japan. It is a cold dish served usually in summer. The Japanese usually serve it with dried bonito flakes, spring onion and ground ginger. The Taiwanese version removes ground ginger and add in century egg. It is a high protein food and tastes wonderful. I ordered 2 dishes. It costs only RM3 per dish anyway.
The total bill came up to RM18. It is good value for money. After lunch, as I walked out of the shop, I saw this JB franchise of the Singapore Eat Song Song (吃爽爽) pisang goreng store. Bought a fried kueh bakul and a fried cempedak. Yummy!
In the evening, I decided to return to this Kafe Snacks Junction Road again.
This time, I ordered a egg pudding tea. Not really that great.
I ordered a Shredded Chicken Cold Noodle as the main dish.
Another dish of dumpling in chili oil (红油抄手), which is actually a Szechuan dish.
and a dish of fried dumpling called fried gold ingot (炸元宝). The dressing is Japanese, with Mayonnaise and sourish Japanese yakisoba sauce.
After dinner, as I walked out of the shop, I saw street hawker fair right in front of the shop. I was too full. May be next time, I will try some of those stores outside.
